需要注意的是，有的项目是不对国际生开放的，或者是面对的大学在校群体是有区别的，所以在申请的时候请注意下项目说明及要求，例如：
The REU program is open, by NSF regulation, only to US citizens and permanent residents. If accepted, you will be required to show proof of citizenship or permanent residency. This program is intended primarily for sophomore and junior students in science and engineering. In exceptional cases first year students could have enough familiarity with physics, engineering, or computer science to profit from their research experience. Students who have not yet enrolled as undergraduates and students who will have a Bachelors degree by the summer of 2019 are not eligible according to NSF regulations. If accepted, you will have to show proof of health insurance coverage for the period of the REU Program.
大多数的项目，在截止日期前申请，都可获得部分津贴，比如：
Food Science Summer Scholar Program
官网上明确说明：All participants in the Summer Scholar Program will receive payment. Scholars receive a stipend of $4,000 with responsibility for finding and paying for housing; or a stipend of $2,500 with on campus housing provided.
CLASSE and CBB Research Experience for Undergraduates （REU）
官网上明确说明：Under our programs, approximately twelve CLASSE and five CBB science and engineering students from around the country will be invited to participate in research at the Laboratory. There are several other REU programs on campus with whom we share housing and programs. Each CLASSE/CBB participant will receive a $5,000 stipend for their summer research work at CLASSE.
所以，按照这个说法，如果申请下来的话，其实整个项目不会有太多额外的开销的。
